A Next Generation Concept to Address NOAA's Current and Future Ocean Surface Vector Wind Requirements

The Issue

• The satellite surface vector wind requirements for operational weather forecasting and warnings have evolved considerably over the past decade

The Problem

• Current and planned satellite SVW missions do not meet NOAA's operational requirements

The Solution

• Develop and execute a plan within NOAA that will address current and future operational SVW requirements
  • Define and document operational SVW requirements
    • Operational SVW requirements workshop held at TPC on June 5-7, 2006

  • Establish partnerships and develop conceptual system/mission designs (research to operations)
